Pre-Raphaelite style portrait on vintage book cover. Memory portrait of Merle, a cat mother, and her baby Pascal.
Myself and the beautiful artist Merle, decided a while back to exchange portraits. We both decided to honour the lives of our two beloved, and deeply missed fur babies Pogle and Pascal.
This is the piece I did of Merle and Pascal. I’d had this charming vintage book on mammals for a while, and I thought it suited her sensitive, animal loving heart. Merle is a classic flaxen haired Victorian beauty, a modern day Pre-Raphaelite Maiden, and does some amazing self portrait photography in this style (among so many other wonderful artworks). So I portrayed her as an allegorical cat mother in the Pre-Raphaelite style. Inside I wrote an inscription using an extract from a well known poem by John Keats.
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases;
it will never pass into nothingness.John Keats – Endymion
