Vanity Fair style portrait for a Macmillan Cancer Research coffee morning. I ran a charity art auction, the prize of which was one of my Victorian, Vanity Fair ‘Spy Cartoon’ style illustrations.
The winning bidder was a judge. In fact he has won two years in a row, having bid very generously both times due to the Macmillan charity being close to his heart. Last year he selflessly commissioned the portrait of a judge who didn’t win but was keen to have one of my illustrations.
He decided he would treat himself this year.
These are gentle caricatures, nothing too extreme. As Leslie Ward (Spy) said:
If I could sum up the art in a sentence, it would be that caricature should be a comic impression with a kindly touch, and always devoid of vulgarity.Leslie Ward – Wikipedia
