The wife of the sitter wanted a Vanity Fair style portrait of her husband to celebrate a ‘big’ birthday. She said, “He has repeatedly been telling me about your wonderful portraits.”
The recipient said “I love and admire your work of me. It has captured me, in my eyes. I am very happy and humble with it.”
These are gentle caricatures, nothing too extreme. As Leslie Ward (Spy) said:
